ENTRY 5: http://www.ir.com/ip-telephony.asp?stlcmpid=6268

“As enterprises deploy IP telephony and integrate voice and data traffic, the new real-time nature of the network infrastructure requires management that is more active.

IP telephony implementation: the need for real-time management.

The main topic of discussion in this entry is the need for management to converge and adapt with this new media technology. “The success of any IP telephony implementation largely depends on selecting the right management platform. Selecting the right management platform can mean fewer up-front risks, faster deployment, and a shorter time to revenue and productivity enhancements. With major global markets becoming more competitive by the second the need for productivity enhancements and faster deployments has never been more necessary.

If the implementation of IP telephony is to be successful management must take an active approach, with IP telephony, a reactive approach to managing the network is a guarantee of failure. “Delivering PSTN like call quality requires careful planning and thoughtful preparation of the infrastructure. It also requires a management platform designed to the unique, real time performance requirements of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and IP telephony. Managers need the capability to monitor the infrastructure and call quality in real time, generate detailed reports, and effectively manage the growth of the IP telephony infrastructure.

Management of IP telephony requires a sophisticated, yet easy to use solution, including “The breadth to span the enterprise and the depth to isolate and automatically resolve individual problems before call quality or service levels are impacted.

With the deployment to thousands of users, effective real-time management needs to be at the forefront of the evaluation and deployment cycles. “Choosing the right toll can mean the difference between success and painful failure.
