From M/Cyclopedia of New Media
Jump to: navigation, search

At present, the future of mobile computing remains uncertain, however continued development and advances in technology should see this revolution continue. The continued success of mobile computing relies on the ability of developers to meet the needs of consumers, and resolve any ongoing difficulties with hardware and software. Should this occur, James Martin in PC World magazine (2004) predicts the potential to access the internet and local area networks (LANs) from wherever in the world one may be. Companies such as Microsoft and Intel are continually discovering new technologies, enabling their customers to be increasing connected and productive. Martin discusses the increased potential for mobile computing through the development of WiMax providing increased speed, and improved ease of use. Problems and challenges of mobile computing that have currently been identified are being research and further advances are expected to be released to consumers by late 2006.
