Virtual Communities - New Media Art
- Many Virtual Communities, online environments, or collaborative hubs have been formed by people with a common interest in New Media Art. As new media art depends on the union between art and technology, these online environments can act as a neutral meeting place for people from both faculties of thought.
Sites of Interest
- ANAT (The Australian Network for Art and Technology): This online community aims to connect people within the fields of art, culture, science and technology. The site contains an events directory, a list of funding bodies and the option to sign up to eLists (email subscription lists). An archive of artwork is also hosted on this site.
- Collaborative initiatives are encoraged within this community.

- Digital Art Source: This site acts as a resource and directory for information relating to digital art and culture. They accepts unsolicited material for publication and encorage interaction on their bulletin board forum. In addition to this, the sites data board links users to information about competitions, festivals and upcoming conferences.
- Experimenta- where creativity meets technology: this organisation presents screenings of new media artists work, in less conventional exhibition contexts. Their online environment provides community visitors with an interactive experience of online exhibitions.
- Rhizome.Org- At the New Museum: This site presents an online community that fosters "the creation, presentation, discussion and preservation of contemporary art that uses new technologies in significant ways" (Rhizome, 2005). Rhizome's ArtBase has archived more than 1500 works. Members of this virtual community also have the ability to hold member-currated exhibits.
- Also of interest are online or virtual galleries that display new media art, and sites that document online projects.
