The Dramatic Group

The Dramatic Group is an innovative, online media business based in Melbourne, Australia (dramatic.com.au, 2005). The online company publishes aggregated information and services to individuals, organisations and businesses in the Australian cultural industry (dramatic.com.au, 2005). The company generates its primary revenue through the retailing of online information subscriptions to organisations and employees, in a number of countries (dramatic.com,au, 2005).

History of The Dramatic Group

The Dramatic Group originated in the online industry in the mid 1990’s, however it wasn’t until the year 2000, that the company instigated a restructure, so as to capitalise on their projects and initiatives (dramatic.com.au, 2005). As such, The Dramatic Group established dramaticonline.com, which was essentially a ‘jobs and news service’ for the arts (The Dramatic Group, 2003). It was created to specifically target the needs and desires of Australia’s arts professionals and was an immediate success. (The Dramatic Group, 2003).

In June 2002, The Dramatic Group launched an online base for Australian screen professionals, called Screen Hub (The Dramatic Group, 2005). In the same year, the company introduced [www.artshub.co.uk/ Arthub.co.uk], in association with UK, arts industry information company, Euclid International (dramatic.com.au, 2005). This was established to provide an information service for arts and cultural workers throughout the United Kingdom (The Dramatic Group, 2002).

In March 2003 The Dramatic Group’s, dramaticonline.com, was relaunched as Arts Hub Australia (artshub.com.au, 2005), so as to re-establish the website in accordance with the company’s global brand (dramatic.com.au, 2005).

In May 2005, The Dramatic Group unveiled the website, Arts Hub Global to provide a common international foundation that monitors changes, exchanges and trades across the world (dramatic.com.au, 2005).

Current Circumstances / Projects

The Dramatic Group is currently under contract to the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFCO), to provide online content services to the Federation’s global membership (dramatic.com.au, 2005). This is conducted through the development and management of the IFCO's website (dramatic.com.au, 2005). The IFCO website utilises a selection of The Dramatic Group’s services, including:

  • the content management system and news service,
  • customised discussion forums,
  • the email newsletter system,
  • publications and resources,
  • links and
  • country profiles (dramatic.com.au, 2005)

Future Developments

The Dramatic Group will continue to seek out and secure affiliations with individuals and organisations, to form significant and effective partnerships (artshub.com.au, 2005). The company has announced a proposed partnership with Victorian Arts industry association, the Arts Management Advisory Group (AMAG), by which arts industry workers throughout Australia will have access to a comprehensive selection of online professional development workshops (The Dramatic Group, 2002).
