The chapter 9 of this book is focus on online media goals, audience and scope. It describes the mass audience online and gives examples about online users in the Western societies. It is also defining the user group online, and talked about the web services. These points will relate to my topic to help me identify the group of people who using internet mostly to read online newspaper. In addition, this book mention about the communicating with the user and how to use or find logic for what is in and what is out. Also, it provides huge technological information to increase our ‘basic knowledge’ about computer skill/history.
This book anchors contemporary discussions of the digital future within a critical tradition of insights about the media arts, society and culture. The author explains how users reorganize daily life with new media (form) and how digital technologies structure experience. There is a very useful part in this book, when the author mention about “convergence; the idea that image, sound and data will come together in a single delivery system. In my opinion, I think the author explains how networking and web activity exacerbate security and surveillance possibilities. Theses are all going to be included in my project.
The author point out that our economy output tended to be “knowledge based in the mid-1990s. This is due to the shift in employment away from agriculture and manufacturing towards information and services. He also finds it interesting where people once wanted bigger cars and offices, nowadays, people want smaller, tinnier things. This book provides some useful Internet history and it will useful for me to describe about my topic background. Also, Coyle specifies certain transformation with clear evidence and examples. It is easy to read through and help me get more information/resources for my topic.
This book is not mention too much information about my topic however, it provides so many ways to teach how to get and find more resources fast from the World Wide Web (WWW) and also they talked about how important of Internet in our life or even in the world. In the back of this book, it describes how fast and what benefits from using internet, and where can we quickly get information update. (e.g. online newspaper/magazine or any other resources)
The article set out to construct a theory of convergence and argue that the convergence process has its genesis in a much wider economic and political dynamic-they talked about the ‘crisis of space’ that occurred in the mid-to late 1970s. The author points out that the consequence of this was the rapid convergence of hitherto discrete technologies into the highly dynamic and hugely powerful IT revolution. The author also analyzed the critical framework which included the nature of converged technologies and their effects upon the nature of communication, of consumption and production, and the cultures and societies which evolve out of these processes.
The book focuses on the realities of mass media power. And the book use online newspaper to be the example which it can be the stronger power to effect the people and change their point of views. Also, the authors conduct interviews with media people to provide a range of views about media power in Australia. In the second part of this book, the authors review a range of theories about media power. They then direct attention to news as a major media product, generating messages and meanings and contributing to the social construction of reality. The whole information in this book is not very useful but it provides some examples and evidence to me to think about my next project.
This book said nowadays, we are all in the new media revolution and the author point out the online media form can be distributed in the future. The book provides newly facts in technological parts in new media area. And also talking about what the effects during this time and how the media makes it “new? Those questions provide the impact to the readers. It is not really relate to my topic however, it is provide the idea to me to rethink about my topic. In addition, the book separate different points into three parts: media technologies, new media form and networking.
This book focus on the how new media technology influences people’s lives and on the wider society. And it also point out comparison between traditional media and networking development during these two decades. However, it is a little bit too theoretical. But some part of information still useful to me to relate my topic.
In the chapter 5 of this book, it talked about old media, new media and the state. It says how the rapid introduction of digital technology was and identifies what is old media and new media, and compare both of them with examples. Also, it talks about the early regulation about print and electronic media. Telling readers about what the differences between each other, and BBC is an example provided inside the chapter. They define the market power which affects online media forms.
=====Tyner, K. (1994) Media literacy review: Access in a digital age [Online]. Available: http://interact.uoregon.edu/MediaLit/MLR/readings/articles/access.html=====
The author’s point of view in this article is that every single person must have the ability of media literacy in order to survive in the digital age. The author states that in the digital world, images, texts and sounds collapse into a ‘bit stream’ of the data. The Internet ‘network of networks’ is a roaring river and mass media models that are becoming quaint anachronisms, replaced by ness, entertainment and advertising by the many for the many. The idea given by the author is truly correct and appropriate to our time, the digital age. And I am also interested in the part where the author mentions why online media is needed, what sorts of media emerge in the digital age and more specifically, the characteristics of electronic media.
=====Valauskas, Edward J. (1993, October) Newspapers as databases: The San Jose Mercury-News and the Mercury Centre. Database, 16(5), 88. ISSN/ISBN: 01624105=====
The article talked about-‘The San Jose Mercury-News has found a way to make its newspaper work as a front end to a rich interactive database.’ And it also provides readers a way not only to read the latest news online but also provide them a background of news to be clearer to the readers online. And readers and they set up the ‘search’?for the story behind the story (in press releases), comment on issues, and talk about electronically to other readers or the newspaper staff. The most important thins is: they have opinion chat room to reflect about readers’ thinking. This is why online newspaper will easy to be access to everyone. This is article will be very useful to be an example for my project topic.
