Introduction to E-Business

This book prepared by QUT has a detailed introduction to some basic aspects of conducting E-business. Since it is an introduction to the subject it covers everything from what e-commerce is, to the challenges senior leaders face. It is useful because as it progresses it helps describe how e-commerce is set up and the ways in which anyone can get involved. This book provides useful references and insight to how the e-commerce framework is structured. Even though this is only an introduction it has provided many useful quotes that can be used throughout the essay. It also gives a slight insight on what senior e-commerce managers have to do and what type of responsibilities they have. This is useful in the later stages of research when a hierarchy may need to be outlined in order to truly understand how the e-commerce companies are organised. Although e-commerce has a lot of advantages there are also problems and they are addressed in the book. Since this book is written by the university it is convenient since if there is a lack of understanding of some of the theories the faculty can be visited for consultaion.

The future of E-Markets

A key part of e-commerce is in fact e-markets,this book looks at the different e-markets and analyses them. In the e-markets it has been established that very often the cost to make transactions between two individuals is very low and often the goods being exchanged are cheaper than the normal retail price. As a result of this, many of these electronic markets use the method of auctioning their goods. The book is useful in describing the introductory economics needed establish how the e-markets function. It also describes the auction theory and how it works and fits into the whole e-marketing framework. That aspect of e-marketing is explained in great detail and with appropriate case studies in order to create a clear picture of the way e-markets work. This book is particularly unique because rather than describe the past it attempts to predict the future of e-markets. Even though it only goes in detail into the subject of auctioning it is easy to understand and simplifies a very complex subject. This book gives a multi dimensional explanation and gets down to the way the mechanisms work and why this way of marketing will become more popular.

E-commerce

This book tells of the evolution of e-commerce companies and because of the success in the 90's they have become a major source of revenue. Since Fall in 2000 however, there was a decline in the success of e-commerce companies which were once plentiful. The book addresses this and observes the lessons to be learned from that period. There is deep insight into both successful and unsuccessful e-commerce ventures and they provide strategies that work and why they work. This book is helpful because it provides a framework for critical thinking in the field. It helps give an understanding of the subject to anyone even if there is no previous knowledge on e-commerce. The scope of the subject is divided into three main areas. the business part, which possibly is the most important area, the technological part which is essential for the participation in this form of business and finally, the societal part which investigates how it is affecting society and the changes that have resulted from this. Possibly the most useful characteristics of this book are the case stuidies used throughout. The case studies used are real examples at the end of each chapter and throughout the book there are case studies of the activities of real e-commerce companies. The way in which these are written clearly highlight the main areas of e-commerce.

Marketing on the Internet

The book "Marketing on the Internet" is a "how to" guide on how to join the world of business on the internet. The book goes through every step on the way to getting the reader to use the marketing potential of the internet. The book is very user friendly and has a narrative style which helps the subject being discussed a lot easier to understand. Throughout the book there have been three main characters to help the reader have further insight on the subject. The main character which provides most of the information on marketing provides a detailed explanation on how the system works. The second character provides all information on the internet and explains the steps necessary to attain the marketing goal. The final character represents the user and asks questions which povide the base for the resulting explanation. The book makes sure to progress slowly and eventually make the user a fairly competent participant in the marketing industry. This book is useful because it not only provides information on how current e-business companies get there, but also, how the user will be able to enter the industry. Throughout the book there are hyperlinks the user can use to go online and explore what the book is talking about.

How to build a profitable E-commerce strategy

This book is mostly about the business-to-business element od e-commerce. It concentrates on the businesses that have been successful and how they were able to arrive at their current position. Now the business -to-business aspect of e-marketing refers to the portion that affects transactions between business corporations and their partners. This is possibly the largest part of e-commerce and definately the fastest growing . This book is very helpful because even though it is dealing with a subject that is quite complex it has been described in a way that will allow a novice to the subject have a fairly clear idea on what is being presented. There is a glossary at the end which often comes in handy when dealing with terms unique to this topic. The author has also used real life companies to give the reader something to relate to. Possibly the most successful way the message was conveyed across was through the usage of the authors own company as an example. The book is essentially an instruction manual on building your own profitable e-business. The book covers all subjects and steps on creating your own business and clearly outlines ways to reduce the chance of failure.

Marketing in the Cyber Age: The Why, The What and The How

This book is a formal style book and explains what changes need to be made to ensure a successful business in the cyber age. It is split into three main parts which make it easier to understand and give it good structure. The first part is "The Why". This area explains about why marketing in the cyber age is essential because of the shift from a consumer society to a networked society. It further explains how marketing is now driven by electronic means. The second part is "The What" which explains how it is essential for new e-businesses to improve their customer realtions in the information age. The final and possibly most important part is "The How". This area of the book explains how companies can derive maximum benefits from the wealth of information available to them. The book trys to take the users point-of view. It starts with the basics and throughout shares practical experience to make sure that what is being read can be applied to real life situations. The aim which is reached very well, is for the reader to minimise risk and ease the implementation process. There is a detailed summary at the end which is very useful as well.

The Business of E-commerce: From corporate Strategy to technology

This book provides a lot of information that can be recieved differently depending on the audience. The book was useful because it shows the different angles in which E-business can be conducted. The author has had experience in the field so the examples given are credible and very helpful. Unlike other books this one shows the way to spot and grab onto the opportunities given. It also gives tips on ways the readers can apply these strategies to the real world. All the relevant technologies are covered and the author makes sure they are explained in detail. The thing that makes this book unique is that it appeals to the technical (users who are applying the startegies discussed in the regular lives) and the non-technical (users who are just learning about e-commerce for abstract reasons) users. It also equips the business and technological areas with the tools to conduct electronic commerce. Not only the traditional but also the new emerging concepts are discussed leaving the reader with knowledge that can be applied to real world projects. The book is very useful and it can be used by newcomers or veterans to exploit the internet and create a successful e-business. it is good for those looking to know the core strategies of e-business.

E-commerce: Fundamentals and Applications

Learning how to build useful e-commerce application is challenging because it involves knowing the fundamentals of different computing applications. This book is useful because it is a textbook and explains all the applications needed fairly competently. The book concentrates on the actual applications unlike other books which concentrate more on the business area and how to actually get into e-business. This book mostly focuses on the most most effective ways to build e-commerce applications. In order to extract any information that makes sense however, the user must already have a fairly good knowledge on the use of computers. Possibly the only disadvantage of this book is that it does not go deeply enough into the business aspect of the subject. However, the examples used are relevant to the subject and it is set out in a user friendly manner. Each chapter has recommended reading at the end which is useful because there may be some need to expand the sources from which information is gathered and since the book has four authors the readings can be assumed to be credible. Overall this book is extremely helpful in defining and guiding the user through the technological part of e-comerce but outside sources must be sought if a more detailed explanation of the business side is needed.
